Is this a good idea?

Should we organize? If so, should we form a new group or join with The Animation Guild?

Yes this is a good idea. I work for one of the bigger vfx companies they are good to their employees and the work culture is pretty good. However I feel the industry is very much geared towards the lifestyle of a 25-27 single male and needs to grow up a bit. Wrap parties and overtime food is all well and good but give me overtime and benefits instead. I think alot of people have strong opinons on these matters but I think most people could agree that its a good industry to be in its just you work too many hours and it affects your real/social/family life. Overtime or a cap on the amount of hours would be my number thing I would like to see become standard in the industry followed by things like long term contracts with health cover better maternity/paternity leave redundancy etc. I want this to be a career not just a job I do till I reach 40 and then leave. Thats my two cents back to work.

It’s too late for me to vote in this poll, but I would prefer a single union (Local 839) over two separate unions for VFX and animation. This would keep things convenient. I could jump from Disney to Imageworks without a break or switch in health and retirement benefits.
